In order to recognize our Students for Life groups that are going above and beyond to help Pregnant and Parenting Students on their campus and to inspire other groups we will be recognizing a Pregnant on Campus group of the month.
Our Pregnant on Campus Group for the Month for March is University of Michigan’s Students For Life. Last month they held a successful fundraising gala for their Pregnant on Campus efforts that raised over 2,500 dollars. They also launched an aggressive advertising campaign to make sure students are aware of what is available to them through taking out 30 bus signs and a two week long tabling blitz in their student union. They managed to also acquire donations including: gift cards, monetary donations and baby items through tabling and advertising in church bulletins. Through these advertising efforts they were able to connect with many pregnant and parenting students on campus and are creating parenting support group on campus. They are planning to offer on-call babysitting and help with grocery shopping, among other things. Their Fundraising Committee is currently petitioning their University about the abortion provision in their health plan. In April, they will also be a hosting a Pregnancy Resource Forum in their community by inviting the University Health Center, U-M Hospital, Arbor Vitae (CPC), Catholic Social Services (adoption services), Family Life Services (CPC) and Students with Children (U-M organization), among a few others at the end of March. They will also be acquiring information from all of the organizations who will be at the forum to compile a resource handbook for pregnant students to hand out at student orientation.
